Abstract

Three cases are presented, two of chronic renal failure and one of intestinal obstruction. All cases responded well to homeopathy, highlighting the role of homeopathy in acute emergencies and showing how rapid the response can be. In one case a patient on dialysis with blood urea 20 2 mg/100 ml and serum creatinine 16mg/100 ml was given Arsenicum album. He never needed dialysis again. Blood urea dropped to 48 mg/100 ml and creatinine dropped to 1.8 mg/100 ml. He later complained of headaches and aches in upper arms and was given Calcarea carbonica, but has continued well with the occasional prescription of Arsenicum album.

The second case of chronic renal failure had dialysis, general weakness, poor appetite, high blood urea and serum creatinine, drowsiness with encephalopathy. Opium 30 c was prescribed to good effect. He became fully conscious, appetite increased, urine quantity increased, and he behaved like a normal person.
