Abstract

The chemistry, dietetic management, and possible homeopathic drugs of calculi are discussed. Renal calculi are usually composed of uric acid, calcium oxalate or phosphates. Foods to avoid are listed for calculi due to oxalates, and there is another list for calculi due to urates. A case is reported where constitutional prescription of Phosphorus caused a kidney calculus to disappear. It is preferable to treat the general characteristics of the patient and not just local pathology, but Calcarea renalis has proved effective for renal calculi. Other remedies mentioned include Berberis, Sarsaparilla and Pareira brava.
