A
case report is given of an 11 year old girl with chronic asthma
which started at 5 months old. She played a lot of sports
but asthma attacks were induced by viral illnesses, pollen
or exercise. She was treated with prednisone or antibiotics.
She was given the remedy Natrum sulphuricum 6c twice a day.
This worked well for 2 months. She developed increased congestion
in the middle of the night, brought on by lake swimming, and
was prescribed Dulcamara 6c instead of the Natrum sulphuricum.
This caused a relapse and she whezed more betwen 2 am and
3 am. She was given Kali carbonicum 30c which cleared up the
nightly attacks. She was given Natrum sulphuricum again which
helped the asthma. Irritability increased and she was given
Nux vomica as a constitutional remedy. This cured some things
but caused others. Arsenicum album finally helped. Only the
Natrum sulphuricum and Arsenicum album were successful. This
case shows the necessity for careful follow-up and how a case
with 2 wrong prescriptions can still be treated successfully
if the correct remedy is found.

| Abstract |

Nux
vomica taken as a constitutional remedy, improved a man's
asthma until he was given Phosphorus 200c for influenza. Asthma
returned a few weeks later. There was discussion on the use
of an acute remedy or a chronic (constitutional) remedy. Dr
H A Roberts declared that the similimum should be prescribed
at the time, ie the acute remedy in this case. The acute remedy
could be a lower potency of a remedy complementary to the
constitutional remedy.

The
relationship between sycosis and asthma has been repeatedly
stressed. Suppression of chronic skin eruptions has been followed
by asthma. Conversely, under homoeopathic treatment amelioration
of asthma has been followed by skin eruptions especially eczema
and urticarias. The three remedies Medorrhinum, Natrum sulphuricum
and Silicea are most useful in treatment of asthma in children.
Homarus, Mephitis and Blatta orientalis were also suggested
in the discussion.
