| Abstract |
|
Two
cases of childhood asthma are treated. The asthma occurs very
differently in the 2 children and they are therefore treated
with a different remedy in each case. In the first case Drosera
was given for acute relief to a 6 year old. Sulphur was then
prescribed as a constitutional remedy because of his warm-bloodedness,
high energy, and history of frequent administration of inhaled
steroids and antibiotics. He had frequent chest infections with
much coughing. He had had steroid creams for eczema at a very
young age. After the Sulphur he had no further attacks of asthma
that year and eventually was able to leave off using his steroid
inhaler. This improvement has been maintained for the last 3
years, with just 3 short courses of Sulphur. In the second case
a boy aged 2 1/2 had suffered from croup since the age of 6
months and wheezed with asthma but did not need inhalent therapy.
He often had a blocked nose and ear infections. When his wheezing
got worse he was given steroids. Phosphorus was prescribed on
constitutional traits with good results. The author still uses
steroids on patients when nothing else works.

| Abstract |
|
Dr
Balfour discusses some of the issues and problems which often
arise when treating asthma homoeopathically. One of the obstacles
often faced is the reappearance of old skin symptoms such
as eczema which in turn should be treated homoeopathically.
He stresses the importance of waiting for the remedy to take
action and ignoring any aggravation which might arise. He
mentions some of the remedies which have been effective in
his experience including Lycopodium clavatum and more unusual
remedies such as Ambrosia and Oleander, and discusses the
use of inhalers. He finally shares a case cured by Phosphorus
and Phosphoric acid.
