Hygrophilla spinosa is long been
known as a medicine for its therapeutic effect like diuretic, male sexual
disorder, renal stone, dropsy, arthritis and insomnia. It is commonly known as Talmakhana,
Gokshura in Hindi and Ikshugandha
in Sanskrit and belongs to the family Acanthaceae. It is an indigenous spine bush and is
common throughout India. The has been
to have diuretic properties useful in male sexual disorders, renal stone,
arthritis, dropsy and insomnia. The Council conducted study of this drug during
1984 – 2003 in various potencies, viz.
6c, 30c & 200c. Study revealed that the medicine can be used in the treatment of
renal calculus, insomnia, allergic dermatitis, urticaria, leucorrhoea and
rheumatic joint pain which are mentioned in homoeopathic literatures. A number
of symptoms like vertigo, headache, coryza, anorexia, dyspepsia, biliary colic
and lumbago etc., were also disappeared or markedly reduced during the trial of
the medicine which can be attributed as its additional clinical symptoms.
