| CONCLUDED CLINICAL RESEARCH STUDIES (GENERAL AREAS) |
The Council carried out its objectives and functions through a network of 51
Institutes and Units during 1979-05 . Under Clinical Research Programme clinical
and therapeutic studies on ninety seven common and chronic ailments were taken
up for study in both General and Tribal areas. These Diseases related studies
were taken up for varying period as per the decision of the Scientific Advisory
Committee (SAC) of the Council, according to the infrastructure available. Due
emphasis was laid on the diseases having national priority like HIV/AIDS,
Diabetes mellitus, Filaria, Malaria etc. The Institutes/Units carrying out these
studies also provided medical aid as by way of research to the people. Some of
the clinical studies undertaken at the time of inception of the Council were
continued for over a decade due to the prevalence of diseases in those areas.
All studies undertaken during 1979-05 were concluded as per the decision of
Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) so that new evidence based studies could be
initiated . Significant leads have been achieved in the treatment of Amoebiasis,
Bronchial asthma, Filaria, Malaria, Osteoarthritis, Cervicitis & Cervical
Erosion, certain Skin disorders, Sickle Cell Anaemia etc. and a small group of
most indicated homoeopathic medicines with reliable indications have been
identified for these problems. The outcome of some of these studies has been
published in Clinical Research Series I, II & III. These are prized publications
and can be obtained from CCRH or online from website. The positive gain of these
findings is that the profession will now have a smaller number of homeopathic
medicines to refer to for a particular disease and the scope of conducting
further research in these diseases. On the basis of outcome of these studies the
Council has undertaken further multicentric clinical studies to ascertain
therapeutic utility of a smaller group of medicines on the Protocols developed
in consultation with the experts in respective fields from All India Institute
of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), National
Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD), National AIDS Control Organization
(NACO) and eminent homeopathic Educators and Researchers . The Council undertook
these studies for both general and tribal areas in 2005 at its 37
Institutes/Units on the same protocols. Ten studies out of these have been
concluded.

homoeopathic medicines in a given pathological condition with regard to identify

| CLINICAL RESEARCH - TRIBAL AREAS |
The tribal population of India is approximately 8%. With a view to
deliver health care to this population at their doorsteps, CCRH established
twenty-one Clinical Research Units in predominantly tribal areas. These Units
catered exclusively to the health needs of these areas, providing medical
facilities by way of research, and also served as a source of promoting health
consciousness of the ethnic groups.
Earlier these units were intended to gather data of prevalence of diseases, food
habits, local customs and beliefs, natural resources and folklore concerning
medicine and health besides providing medical care to the locals as bye-way of
research. The homoeopathic medicines tried were mostly partially proved or used
infrequently in clinical practice but are said to have traditional or empirical
use or have a special affinity for the organ (s) in particular disease
conditions.
These units initially conducted surveys and observational studies in these
tribal pockets to ascertain the disease prevalence and to identify the local
traditions, flora and fauna particularly those having a bearing on the health
status of these population groups.
Based upon these findings diseases were identified for homoeopathic treatment in
various areas. Since tribal populations were a virgin population in terms of
health care facilities, a few lesser known Homoeopathic drugs were selected to
be studied on these groups to extract their maximum therapeutic potential. These
studies were concluded on 31st March 05. |
