Abstract
This is a case documented from the ongoing clinical research study on "Distress during climacteric years" at Clinical Research Unit (Homoeopathy) Chennai, under Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy, New Delhi. The objective of the study is to explore the role of homoeopathic therapy in management of distress during climacteric years and also its effect on the Follicle stimulating hormone and lipid profile in menopause transitional woman. The case was subjected to screening before enrolment; the haematological, hormonal, biochemical and pathological tests were conducted at baseline, at six months and after completion of treatment as per the time schedule prescribed in the protocol. Pap smear was done to exclude the malignancy. The case was treated with Sulphur. It was observed from the data that the multi-dimensional action of the medicine not only brought the Serum FSH and lipid profile to normal levels but also extended to the level of tissues so that the inflammation of the cervix disappeared and size of the uterus became normal along with improvement in baseline score. The haemoglobin percentage and erythrocyte sedimentation rate also came to normal level.
This case which speaks about success of homoeopathic therapy once again confirms the multi-dimensional action of homoeopathic medicine. This case proves that the medicine prescribed in accordance with law of similars (the selection of similimum is done by individualization), can relieve the distress during climacteric years without any side effects or adverse out comes. The outcome of the ongoing multicentric Clinical Research study will further reveal the effects of homoeopathic medicines on the hormone FSH and lipid profile in menopause transitional women.

Unit for Homoeopathy, Puducherry, India 2.Central Council for
Research in Homoeopathy, New Delhi, India
Abstract
Background: Chronic bronchitis is a condition associated with excessive
tracheo-bronchial mucous production sufficient to cause cough with expectoration for at
least three months in a year for more than two consecutive years. Simple chronic bronchitis is
a condition characterized by mucoid sputum production. Mucopurulent chronic bronchitis is a
condition characterized by recurrence of purulent sputum in absence of localized disease.
The objective of present open trial was to evaluate a group of homoeopathic medicines efficacious
in treating simple and mucopurulent chronic bronchitis.
Methods: Out of 216 cases enrolled in the study at Clinical Research Unit, Puducherry,
87 patients with simple and mucopurulent chronic bronchitis have completed two years of
follow-up between October 2005 and March 2009. Patients were evaluated at the time of
enrollment and every 3 months till 24 months for disease symptoms, pulmonary function test
(PFT), X Ray Chest, sputum and blood investigations. The patients were treated with 14 pre
selected trial medicines.
Results: The study population (n = 87) consisted of 66 males and 21 females.
Mean age of patients was 35 + 12.9 yrs (range 20-50 yrs). Average duration of symptoms
was 6 + 2.7 yrs (range 2-10 years). A total of 14 homoeopathic medicines were prescribed
after repertorisation on the basis of presenting signs and symptoms of disease and
characteristic symptoms. Significant improvement in symptom score was obtained from
all medicines except Calc. carb. and Carbo veg. However, improvement in PFT parameters
was not as marked as seen in symptom score. FEV1 improved significantly only with Arsenic
album, Phosphorus, Silicea and Stannum met.
Conclusion: Interim results of the ongoing study show improvement in symptom scores and Spirometry findings
following treatment with homoeopathic medicines. This shows usefulness of these medicines in patients with
simple and mucopurulent chronic bronchitis.

Objective:
To evaluate the efficacy of homoeopathic therapy in the management of distress
symptoms encountered during climacteric years in women (primary objective) and also
the changes brought about in the levels of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and
lipid profile in these women after homeopathic treatment (secondary objective).
Methods:
A total number of 54 patients presenting with symptoms of menopausal distress, treated with indicated
homoeopathic medicine and followed up for one year have been selected out of 88 patients enrolled in the study.
The clinical diagnosis was based on the history of menstrual cycle in the preceding year and on the level of
follicle stimulating hormone (FSH). In every patient 'Cervical Intra-epithelial Neoplasia' (CIN) was ruled out
by the consultant Gynaecologist after doing PAP smear test. Homoeopathic medicine most similar to the totality
of symptoms of each patient was prescribed. The assessment of the results was made through statistical analysis
using 'paired t test'. Lipid profile was carried out at entry, six months and on completion of one year to
ascertain the effects of homoeopathic medicines.
Results:
Homoeopathic therapy was found to be useful in relieving menopausal distressing symptoms in varying
degree in all the 54 (100%) patients. Lachesis, Calc. carb., Sepia, Lycopodium and Sulphur were more frequently
indicated and useful. There was reduction in follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) level in 29 (53.70%) out of 54
patients, (P=0.926>0.5), hypercholesterolemia in 9 (52.94%) out of 17 patients, (P=0.000<0.5), triglyceride level
in 14 (60.86%) out of 23 patients, (P=0.000<0.5), and LDL level in all the 11 patients, (P=0.000<0.5).
Conclusion:
This interim report based on the data of 54 patients reproves the usefulness of homoeopathic medicines
in relieving distressing symptoms during climacteric years and normalizing the follicle stimulating hormone (FSH)
and lipid levels, through a systematic study adopting scientific tools of medical research.

Abstract
Background & objectives:
Chronic bronchitis is a condition associated with excessive tracheobronchial mucus
production sufficient to cause cough with expectoration for at least 3 months in a year for more than two
consecutive years. Simple chronic bronchitis describes a condition characterized by mucoid sputum production.
Chronic mucopurulent bronchitis is a condition characterized by persistent or recurrent purulent sputum in the
absence of localized suppurative diseases such as bronchiectasis. The objective of the present study was to
evaluate a group of homoeopathic medicines in treating patients suffering from simple and mucopurulent chronic
bronchitis.
Methods:
Out of 174 cases enrolled in the study at Clinical Research Unit, Chennai, 56 patients with simple
and mucopurulent chronic bronchitis have completed two years of follow-up from October 2005 to May 2009.
Improvement was assessed at every 3 months up to 24 months by symptom score and pulmonary functions tests (PFT).
The patients were treated with 10 pre selected trial medicines
.
Results:
56 patients were studied, in the age group of 20-50 years in both sexes, out of which 29 were males
and 27 were females. Results are encouraging and 49 patients got various degrees of improvement, after the completion of 2 years treatment .The frequency, duration and intensity of cough and expectoration were reduced markedly in 37 cases, moderately in 03 cases and mildly in 09 cases. Remaining 07 patients did not improve. Improvement in symptom score was obtained with 10 medicines, i.e. Stannum met. (n=2), Ars. alb. (n=8), Silicea (n=6), Phosphorus (n=10), Lycopodium (n=8), Pulsatilla (n=16), Bryonia (n=3), Hep. sulph. (n=1), Calc carb. (n=1), and Spongia (n=1). In 7 cases, the symptom scores were not improved. Improvement in PFT parameters was not as marked as seen in symptom score. FEV1 improved significantly with Stannum met., Ars.alb., Silicea, Phosphorus, Pulsatilla, Calc carb., Hepar sulph., Bryonia and Spongia except Lycopodium.
Conclusion:
