| CLINICAL RESEARCH |
Medical research is a broad discipline. The era of
medicine in Homoeopathy begins with Hahnemann, the founder of Homoeopathy. Among
all the different types of research, clinical trials form a key step to prove
the safety and efficacy of the therapy and form the bridge between research and
clinical practice. Clinical Research plays a major role in the development of
medicine. It has been more so in case of Homoeopathy wherein symptomatic data
obtained by means of proving (experimentation) of drugs on healthy human beings,
need to be repeatedly verified on patients in the clinics to be valid before it
forms part of the Homoeopathic materia medica. It also helps in the elucidation
of fundamental principles and their application in the treatment of various
diseases. It has therefore, remained an important research activity of the
Council ever since its inception in 1978.
The main objectives of CCRH in Clinical research are clinical confirmation of
drug-pathogenesis; elicitation of new clinical symptoms; evaluation of clinical
drug pictures; classification of various complexions, temperaments and
constitutions, and to evaluate action of homoeopathic drugs on any given
pathological conditions. The programmes were initiated with pre designed
protocols and laboratory parameters for outcome assessment on scientific lines.
Some of the clinical studies undertaken at the time of inception of the
Council were continued for over a decade due to the prevalence of diseases in
those areas. All studies undertaken during 1979 were concluded except diseases
of national importance as per the
decision of Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) in 2003, so that new evidence
based studies could be initiated. The outcome of some of these studies have been
published in Clinical Research Series I, II & III. These are prized publications
and can be obtained from CCRH. The positive gain of these findings is that the
profession will now have a smaller number of homoeopathic medicines to refer to
for a particular disease and the scope of conducting further research in these
diseases.
On the basis of outcome of these studies the Council has undertaken further
multicentric clinical studies to ascertain therapeutic utility of a smaller
group of medicines on the Protocols developed in consultation with the experts
in respective fields from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS),
Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), National Institute of Communicable
Diseases (NICD), National AIDS Control Organization (NACO) and eminent
homeopathic Educators and Researchers. The Council undertook these studies for
both general and tribal areas in 2005 at its Institutes/Units on the same
protocols. These studies have been concluded. These manuscripts on for of these
diseases have been published in international journals. The council has also
initiated 7 RCTs in June 2010
